Magnus Wallin – Limbo (1999)

Limbo

Magnus Wallin’s (Sweden, 1965) animation Limbo mainly appears to be a short story with a surrealistic character. As in most stories linked to surrealism, the film contains absurd moments and nightmares. To increase the effect of abalienation, Wallin uses animated characters that have a artificial look, and which on first sight seem to be related to icons of popular culture from comic books, films and computer games (such as Ken, Superman and Lara Croft). At the same time, real life characters can also be recognized, such as American swimmer and movie star Esther Williams, a heroine of the movie scene in the fifties.
