Guido van der Werve – Number Eight, everything is going to be allright (2007)

In Number Eight, a man saunters along on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia, Finland, trailed by a mammoth ice-breaker ship several yards behind him. The man is unhurried and appears to be unaware of the ship, although it seems as though the ship is about to encroach upon him and threaten his life. However, curiously, the ship stays behind the man.
Guido van der Werve (NL, 1977), lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied at the Rotterdam conservatorium, also studied Audiovisual Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, and was in 2006 a resident at the Rijksacademie Amsterdam. Van der Werve takes his inspiration from his direct surroundings and from the romantic culture and music of the nineteenth century. His films, with constantly reappearing elements such as performance, texts and dance, mostly represent his current state of mind.
